Painting clearly shows the construction of the HMS Detroit plus other naval vessels which took part in the defence of the Upper Great Lakes and which were involved in the Battle of Lake Erie in September 1813. Oral tradition indentifies figures in the foreground to be British Major General Henry Procter and Shawnee Chief Tecumseh who were involved in the defence of the Western District during the war.
