This circa 1790’s portrait depicts Cotton at the beginning of his military career. Major Edward Cotton was mortally wounded and left on the field at the Battle of Fort George, May 17, 1813. Captured, and later repatriated, Cotton died from his wounds in Lower Canada later in the year.
