|Title||100th regt of Foot Silhouette Portrait Maj Martin|
|Document source||Parks Canada|
The partially obscured inscription suggests that the sitter was Brevet Major Martin, who fought with his regiment on the Niagara frontier during the War of 1812. Martin led an attacking column in the successful assault on US Fort Niagara in December 1813, and participated in the savage battles of the 1814 campaign. Portraits of known British and Canadian officers of the War of 1812 are quite rare.
