Forsyth was the hard driving commander of the 1st US Rifle Regiment. He fought in skirmishes and battles along the St. Lawrence River. This sword was captured by British forces following the US defeat at the Battle of Ogdensburg, New York on February 22nd, 1813. Forsyth served at the attack on York, and the battles on the Niagara region in 1813, including the Battle of Stoney Creek and the Battle and Siege of Fort George. He was killed in a skirmish near Odelltown, Lower Canada, on June 28th, 1814.
